Award-Winning Ojai Valley Inn Re-Opens

The Travel + Leisure 2021 “World’s Best” Award Winner in Southern California Introduces New Look and Welcomes Back Guests

Ojai, Calif. (February 25, 2021) – Ojai Valley Inn, the iconic luxury resort recognized this month as one of the Top 500 Hotels in the World in 2021 by Travel + Leisure, welcomes back guests following a months-long, $5 million renovation felt across the award-winning Spa Ojai, including stunning new Spa Penthouse Suites.

"We're thrilled to be recognized as one of the top hotels in the world by Travel + Leisure, especially in light of the challenges of the past year," says Chris Kandziora, General Manager. "As part of our commitment to being a premier getaway destination in California, we took time during the resort's temporary closure to completely renovate several areas of the property. We are proud to debut a new, modern luxury inspired design for Spa Ojai and the Spa Penthouse Suites. We look forward to welcoming guests back to the resort to experience the Inn's warm hospitality amidst these reimagined settings."

Relax, Renew, Repeat: Spa Ojai Debuts New Look & Renewed Focus on Sustainability

Spa Ojai, the award-winning 31,000 square-foot spa, is at the epicenter of Ojai Valley Inn’s renovation. Spa Ojai’s new look spans all twenty-four treatment rooms, public spaces and two luxurious penthouse guest suites. Additionally, the spa introduces impactful therapies and sustainability initiatives from the hotel’s Director of Wellness & Sustainability, with guest touchpoints that chart new territory in the luxury spa space.

Spa Ojai introduces a new, technology and sustainability-forward design for a world-class spa experience in the heart of Southern California’s wellness mecca. Guests at the new Spa Ojai will pass through a tranquil courtyard with a running fountain before entering the iconic spa. Once indoors, visitors will find new luxury lockers, new flooring, tiling, and lighting throughout the space for a relaxing, peaceful environment. New vanity stations and additional shower space also contribute to the enhanced experience, as well as a dedicated quiet room on the women’s side and a new cold plunge on the men’s side. Guests will also be able to enjoy a newly expanded serenity lounge upstairs, with soft, cozy-chic furnishings to complement the warmth of the space.

“The enhancements introduced at Spa Ojai will offer our guests an inviting, seamless and private spa experience, from the moment they step foot on property,” says Kate Morrison, Ojai Valley Inn’s Director of Sustainability and Wellness. “Over the course of the past year, we have been focused on making physical updates to our iconic spa to enhance the overall Spa Ojai experience with the latest in technology and design, from locker room enhancements to infrared saunas and outdoor showers.”

The spa was given a fresh look with the help of LA design firm Amber Interiors, who furnished the entire space to look and feel like the firm's well-known laid-back California aesthetic.

Beginning today, Spa Ojai will also reintroduce its signature Kuyam experience for individuals and small, private groups. The Kuyam, a Chumash Native American Indian word meaning “a place to rest together,” is a unique detoxifying experience that combines therapeutic, self-applied desert clay with essential oils; intense dry heat; and inhalation therapy in a sauna-like environment.

A Suite Escape in Southern California’s Shangri-La

Ojai Valley Inn also presents its newly renovated Spa Penthouse Suites that sit above Spa Ojai. The $2 million redesign, orchestrated by BAR Architects’ renowned Director of Interiors Tim Hepworth and interior designer Alexa d’Argencé, draws inspiration from the magical setting of Ojai to create two havens for wellness-seeking guests looking for a relaxing and rejuvenating getaway.

The Sunset and Moonrise Penthouse Suites are each 1,500 square-foot, two-bedroom accommodations with sweeping views of the surrounding valley and ample private outdoor space. Inspired design touches include handmade wool rugs and hardwood flooring; artwork by Tricia Strickfaden and Peter Zaleski; bathrooms with Carrara marble finishes; and opulent outdoor lounge seating and fire table for al fresco evenings by Harbour Outdoor and Sutherland. Both suites pay homage to the resort’s location in the heart of Ojai Valley, the unofficial “Zen Capital” of Southern California.

Ojai Valley Inn Announces The Restaurant At Meadowood Winter Residency With Michelin-Starred Chef Christopher Kostow Plus Extraordinary New Epicurean Events

Michelin Stars Align at The Farmhouse Epicurean and Event Center in January/February 2021; New Events with Culinary Luminaries Including Dominique Crenn Take Center Stage Through 2020

Ojai, Calif. (November 12, 2020) – Iconic Southern California resort Ojai Valley Inn today announces a once-in-a-lifetime culinary series – called The Restaurant at Meadowood Winter Residency – that will bring a socially distant Michelin-starred dinner soiree to Ojai between January 6–February 28, 2021. The pop-up series in collaboration with renowned Chef Christopher Kostow celebrates a special connection between Ojai Valley Inn and Meadowood Napa Valley, as this acclaimed resort inspired the design of The Farmhouse where the fine dining culinary series will take place.

“We are so excited to partner with Ojai Valley Inn, and take up “residency” at the beautiful Farmhouse designed by our friends Howard Backen and Silvia Nobili,” said Chef Kostow. “While planned well before the Glass Fire that devastated The Restaurant at Meadowood, our time in Ojai will serve as an opportunity for the TRAM team to continue to cook and work together. We look forward to crafting menus that encompass the divergent terroir of the valleys of Napa and Ojai, and to sharing our work with a new audience."

The Restaurant at Meadowood Winter Residency will unfold January 6–February 28, 2021, in beautiful indoor and outdoor settings at The Farmhouse. A six-course dinner for the senses with wine pairings will evoke the artistry and exquisite Californian cuisine of the Michelin Guide 3-star experience shared at The Restaurant at Meadowood in Napa Valley. The residency will feature California ingredients that flourish in winter, with ingredients sourced from The Restaurant’s very own 3.5-acre farm as well as from local artisans and growers in the Napa and Ojai valleys. The intimate dinner setting will be limited in size with parties seated exclusively as booked in place of communal dining. Dinners will take place each Wednesday-Sunday and the price is $495 per person inclusive of wine (tax is not included).

“This culinary residency is very special for our team as the design inspiration for The Farmhouse began with a trip to Meadowood where we met with Chef Kostow and architects Howard Backen and Silvia Nobili to develop the Farmhouse concept,” said Chris Kandziora, General Manager of Ojai Valley Inn. “It is an honor to welcome The Restaurant at Meadowood and provide a place for their team to continue their culinary brilliance as they plan to rebuild.”

Since its debut in 2019, The Farmhouse at Ojai Valley Inn continues to bring world-class epicurean experiences to Southern California that encompass intimate lunches and dinners, culinary experience, and master classes, and thought-provoking seminars – each one featuring a powerhouse in their field. The setting of The Farmhouse is just as striking. Nationally acclaimed architect Howard Backen with Backen Gillam Architects in Napa Valley created a timeless natural aesthetic across a series of distinctive spaces that include The Kitchen, The Library, The Lawn, and The Great Room, as well as a path of sun-splashed nooks dotted with ancient native olive trees, an organic chef’s garden, spectacular two-story alfresco fireplace and a 100-year-old oak tree.

As a prelude to The Restaurant at Meadowood Winter Residency in early 2021, Ojai Valley Inn is delighting sophisticated palates in 2020 with an all-star lineup of new epicurean events at The Farmhouse. Event highlights through 2020 include:

  • Petrossian Caviar Master Class (November 20) – The culinary masterminds behind Petrossian Restaurants share their world-class caviar with a tasting including wine, champagne and gourmet snacks.
  • BOND x Cowboy Star Master Class & Library Dinner (November 21) – BOND Director Scott Gould and San Diego-based Chef Victor Jimenez of Cowboy Star take guests through an intimate Master Class tasting and five-course dinner paired with a library selection of BOND wines.

  • The Truffle Dinner with Nancy Silverton & John Magazino (December 12) – Culinary luminary Nancy Silverton of Mozza Restaurant Group and renowned truffle specialist John Magazino present an unforgettable multi-course dinner featuring fresh white Alba truffles from Italy and fresh black Périgord truffles from France paired with exceptional wines.

Ojai Valley Inn Announces The Ground Breaking Of The Farmhouse, A One-Of-A-Kind Culinary And Events Center

Howard Backen-designed Culinary Center poised to bring world-class epicurean experiences to Ojai

Ojai, CA (November 14, 2017) – Today the legendary Ojai Valley Inn breaks ground on a stunning multi-use epicurean showplace, The Farmhouse at Ojai Valley Inn, set for debut events in 2018. Famed architect Howard Backen with Backen Gillam Kroeger in Napa Valley has designed the expansive 20,000 square foot culinary and event center to connect world-class food culture with indoor/outdoor functions. This architectural achievement will raise the profile of gatherings held within the space, shaking up the conventional perception of group events — all in the enviable Southern California climate and the natural mountain surroundings of Ojai.

“It is a thrill to announce such a creative and ambitious continuation of Ojai’s valley-to-table culinary heritage. The Farmhouse at Ojai Valley Inn will provide spectacular new venues for our guests and even more exceptional culinary experiences,” said Alex Kim, Managing Director at the Ojai Valley Inn. “Our team of world-class chefs, along with some of the greatest culinary talent from around the globe, will reintroduce The Inn as the premier West Coast culinary destination.”

The Farmhouse at Ojai Valley Inn is a connected natural campus of distinct spaces: The Kitchen, The Library, The Lawn, and The Great Room —an expansive 8500-square-foot multi-use, ballroom space. The wood and glass barn-inspired structures feature a natural palette of forest browns and greys, redwood siding, 25-foot ceilings, and exposed wooden trusses. The Kitchen is designed for open demo format, allowing up to 80 guests a front row seat to the chefs in action, while the adjacent Library and garden courtyard, each seating up to 20, will serve as private dining and meeting areas. Additionally, 11’-6” foot high sliding doors will open dramatically to The Lawn with expanded outdoor seating, a landscaped garden of native olive trees and lavender, an organic vegetable and herb garden, and a majestic 100 year-old Oak tree anchoring the center focal point.

“The magical surroundings and natural backdrop of Ojai is the main inspiration for the design of The Farmhouse at Ojai Valley Inn,” said Architectural Digest Award-winning architect Howard Backen, who is known for his work on projects such as Archetype, Esperanza and the Napa Valley Reserve in Napa Valley, among many others. “The consistently mild weather and expansive space allowed me to open up the center and incorporate a natural aesthetic throughout with rustic, yet clean and simple, natural design.”

The Farmhouse at Ojai Valley Inn is anticipated to open in the fall of 2018. For more information, please visit www.ojairesort.com and follow @ojaivalleyinn on social media.

Olivella Earns Coveted Forbes 4-Star Recognition

Luxury Resort Signature Restaurant Scores A Perfect 49/49 Points To Receive Prestigious Award

OJAI, CALIF. (February 22, 2017) Forbes Travel Guide unveiled its annual Star Rating list today, naming Ojai Valley Inn's Olivella, as a new Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star restaurant for 2017. This makes the luxury resort’s signature restaurant the sole Forbes Travel Guide Four Star and AAA Four Diamond restaurant located between Los Angeles and the Northern California region. With the announcement of this distinction, Olivella becomes one of just 13 new Four- Star restaurants in the United States and joins the exclusive ranks of the 27 Four Star restaurants throughout California.

The Four-Star designation is bestowed on restaurants that meet the stringent and uncompromising standards of Forbes’ professional and anonymous inspectors with rigorous testing of every aspect of the property experience, regarded as the gold standard in the hospitality industry since 1958.

“The dedicated team at Olivella has worked tirelessly to provide the best possible dining experiences that bring to life both the beautiful bounty and spirit of the Ojai Valley,” said Alex Kim, Managing Director of Ojai Valley Inn. “We are very proud and truly thankful to have achieved this tremendous distinction.”

Olivella presents an innovative concept that celebrates the flavors of the Ojai Valley through both traditional and modern interpretations of Italian cuisine. The kitchen is helmed by Chef de Cuisine Andrea Rodella, who marries the season’s best ingredients with the preparations and techniques he learned as a boy growing up in Northern Italy.

Signature dishes include California Burrata with Heirloom Tomato Tartare, Oven Dried Olives, Garlic, Garden Herbs and Pistachio, and Rigatoni with Chef Rodella’s Grandmother’s Bolognese recipe, which has been handed down since the late 1800’s.

Ojai Valley Inn & Spa Unveils Single Use Plastic-Free Luxury Spa

Earth Day Marks Launch of Industry Leading Environmentally Conscious Initiative

Ojai, CA (April 18, 2017) – Today, iconic Southern California escape Ojai Valley Inn & Spa announces it will become free of single-use plastic items throughout Spa Ojai, its award-winning 30,000 square foot spa. The innovative movement replaces traditional spa amenities with eco-friendly, reusable versions and establishes a new benchmark in the luxury spa space.

Stemming from the realization that in 2016 Spa Ojai guests discarded 24,000 plastic snack cups and 107,120 plastic water cups after each use, Spa Director Kate Morrison sourced alternatives that both eliminate waste and support the complete luxury spa experience. As the concept of wellness continues to broaden into everyday life, the goal of the sweeping initiative is to help redefine the standards of the luxury spa experience while inspiring guests to make their own small changes in daily life.

“Spa has become a lifestyle for many and the concept of ‘wellness’ is broadening and touching many elements of our daily lives,” says Morrison. “As spa professionals, our guests look to us to help guide their wellness journey, through fitness, diet, skincare, body work and beyond. I hope our plastic-free initiative inspires our guests to make change in their own lives, and that our industry partners also embrace this movement as we broaden the spa journey to include wellness for the planet.”

Thoughtful touches that comprise Spa Ojai’s single-use plastic free initiative range from stainless steel water and snack cups to a swimsuit drying service in place of plastic bags, and chilled washcloths in lieu of towelettes. Water bottle refill stations and other “green” initiatives throughout Spa Ojai will be stamped with a green oak leaf symbol, which will help guide guests through the innovative amenity program, continuously reminding them that by visiting Spa Ojai, they have participated in a conservation movement to better our environment.

Ojai Valley Inn & Spa Lights Up The Night With Illume By Paul Ferrante

OJAI, Calif. (August 16, 2016) – In celebration of the unspoiled natural beauty, majestic oak trees and seemingly endless summers of Ojai, Ojai Valley Inn & Spa debuts Illume by Paul Ferrante, a sparkling alfresco evening art installation and champagne lounge.

Beginning August 26, a collection of 28 exquisite, hand-crafted wrought iron and glass lanterns created by Paul Ferrante will adorn the branches of the resort’s iconic 200-year old Oak Tree, casting a magical glow over a pop-up al fresco champagne lounge. Each lantern was hand forged by a Los Angeles-based Paul Ferrante artisan and bears a distinctive design reflective of the Spanish Revival aesthetic, recalling the Inn’s beginnings in 1923. The priceless vintage-inspired selection of hanging pendants, hexagons and spheres feature a variety of clear, antique, seeded or even brilliant mica glass, all of which cast a magical glow over a chic outdoor lounge setting.

The partnership with peerless luxury lighting and furniture design legend Paul Ferrante, beloved by celebrities and designers alike, pairs the company’s gasp-worthy handcrafted designs with the Inn’s lush, sprawling landscape and sophisticated lounge seating. Steps from the historic Wallace Neff Heritage Bar, Illume by Paul Ferrante is an enchanting setting for guests to linger over expertly crafted libations or one of the Inn’s rare vintage wines available by the glass. On Friday evenings complimentary flutes of Veuve Clicquot will be available beneath the luminescent lounge, creating a uniquely Southern Californian experience.

Illume by Paul Ferrante premieres at Ojai Valley Inn & Spa on August 26, 2016. (#IllumePaulFerrante)

A Fresh New Culinary Perspective Is Unveiled At Ojai Valley Inn & Spa

OJAI, CALIF. (September 15, 2015) – The iconic Southern California resort, Ojai Valley Inn & Spa, has created a fully reimagined culinary experience, with the opening of new signature restaurant Olivella and Vine, and the reinvigorated Wallace Neff Heritage Bar. The opening of these new dining destinations marks the culmination of phase one in a series of resort-wide enhancements designed to fuse the Inn’s celebrated legacy with the discriminating desires of today’s luxury traveler. With new culinary leadership, a contemporary perspective and enduring commitment to valley-grown ingredients, the resort’s revitalized food and beverage program introduces the Inn to locals and travelers as the Valley’s newest epicurean escape.

The resort’s culinary revolution begins with the passionate and talented chefs that obsess over every detail of the menu and preparation. Overseeing all of the resort’s dining, Executive Chef Truman Jones is a former farmer turned chef. Having worked in an array of Five-Star and Michelin-rated kitchens, Chef Jones brings deep farming roots and a long standing commitment to local, seasonal and responsibly raised ingredients along with a passion for fine technique. Leading the kitchen of Olivella and Vine is Chef de Cuisine, Andrea Rodella, who is renowned for his signature style that marries the season’s best ingredients with the traditional preparations he learned as a boy growing up in northern Italy.

Olivella and Vine presents an innovative concept of distinctly California cuisine with Italian influences. The seasonally driven menu showcases a long-standing commitment to valley-grown ingredients with a nod to Italian tradition with signature dishes that include: Local Heirloom Tomatoes with DiStefano Burrata, Charred Treviso and 30-year aged Balsamico; Seared Scallops with Castroville Artichokes, Farm Peaches, “galletta di riso” and Estate Mint; Ora King Salmon Filet with Caponata, Fregola and Sea Asparagus and Rigatoni with Chef Rodella’s

The 240-seat restaurant is divided into a variety of large and intimate dining spaces, with unique art pieces and custom designed lighting throughout that creates a residential feeling. Stylish private dining rooms feature oversized, intricately hand-carved White Russian Oak farm doors, soaring ceilings, sizeable windows and a cozy fireplace. A dramatic wine library surrounds the private wine room, with a carefully curated collection of hundreds of bottles from boutique vineyards the world over. The private wine room’s communal dining table seats 14 and is lit by a contemporary chandelier of steel and glass accompanied by dramatic artwork and coffered ceilings. Dual patios for al fresco dining offer prime viewing for Ojai’s legendary “Pink Moment” sunsets.

A cornerstone of Ojai’s history since 1923 and long regarded as the resort’s historic center, the venerable Wallace Neff Heritage Bar has been carefully refreshed to serve as a welcoming gathering space, steeped in history yet featuring contemporary comforts, named after the renowned architect who built the clubhouse. An expanded courtyard with oversized fire pits and comfortable seating is filled with fragrance from surrounding lavender and magnolia gardens and leads to a handsome lounge filled with cozy nooks, overstuffed sofas, distressed leather armchairs and tables set for board games. A re-conceptualized food and beverage program features a seasonally-driven menu of small bites and a Heritage menu of hand-crafted cocktails with names that offer a nod to legendary silver screen movies that drew inspiration from Ojai. These classic libations include: Wallace’s Muse with Private Label Herradura Double Barrel Tequila, Strawberry-Arbol Chili Shrub and Soda, and the Lost Horizon with Hangar One Vodka, Zhena Italian Chamomile Tea, St. Germain and Lemon.
